During the autumn school holidays, the Düsseldorf-based association KRASS is conducting three art projects for refugee children in refugee accommodations. The aim of the projects is to promote creative expression, teach practical skills, and enable collaborative creative activities.
Our projects for refugee children are generally accompanied by experienced and professional supervisors as well as volunteers from the KRASS team. They provide children with space to explore artistic expression and gain new experiences.
“Experimental Installation” at Kieshecker Weg 100
In this project, free creative expression is at the center. The children are allowed to paint and print on a long paper roll and then jointly develop an installation. This installation is expanded and transformed over the course of the days, creating a shared, growing work of art. The activity encourages experimentation, discovery, and collaboration.
- Dates: October 15th, 16th, 22nd and 23rd
- Time: 12:00 p.m. - 16:00 p.m.
“Upcycling – Art from everyday materials” – Nießdonk 53
This four-day holiday program is dedicated to the creative reuse of everyday materials. From cardboard boxes, paper, and fabrics, new objects are created – ranging from imaginative figures and pictures to useful items. The children are inspired by well-known artists and learn various craft techniques. The project combines playful learning with environmental awareness and fosters the joy of creating.
- Dates: October 21–24
- Time: 14:00 p.m. - 19:00 p.m.
“Viva la Mexico!” at Oberlöricker Straße 321
In this creative workshop, everything revolves around Mexican culture. The children create colorful garlands, traditional masks, and piñatas. A piñata is a colorful figure made of paper or cardboard, filled with sweets or small surprises. On the final day, a small celebration takes place where the piñatas are broken open and everyone celebrates together with Mexican music and snacks. In this way, the children learn about another culture in a playful way and experience creativity, community, and the joy of making things together.
- Dates: October 20–23
- Time: 16:30 p.m. - 19:30 p.m.
The importance of cultural education for children and young people
Cultural education gives children the opportunity to express their creativity, develop personal skills, and make social connections. It is particularly important for refugee children, as it allows them to... Art and collaborative design, allowing children to experience participation and strengthening their integration into society. Projects like these contribute to building self-confidence, bridging cultural differences, and enabling children to play an active role in their new environment.
