Creativity needs space for art – and that's exactly the space that the non-profit organization KRASS e.V. offers children in Düsseldorf. At Jägerstraße 31, next to the Eller community center in Düsseldorf – in the adjacent former school – children and young people can paint, dance, make music, film, and create.
The special thing is that all offers are free of charge, openly accessible, and supervised by professional artists. Children can simply come to us without registration or barriers – just drop by and be creative. This way, every child in Düsseldorf can engage in art, regardless of their background or circumstances. That is what makes us unique!
At KRASS e.V., children and young people from all over the world come together. Origin, language, or social situation don't matter. Here, only the fun and joy of art and creating together count. The projects foster self-confidence, creativity, team spirit, genuine tolerance, and open-mindedness. Within a supportive and trusting environment, children and young people can explore their artistic talents.
Visual arts for children – a space for imagination and expression
In the children’s studio, children immerse themselves in the world of colors, shapes, and materials. They paint, draw, craft, shape, and try out different techniques and skills. In doing so, they learn not only how art is created, but also how to make their own thoughts visible.
Everything children need for art is already here: from brushes, paints, paper and canvases to scissors, glue and craft materials, as well as exciting found objects for experimenting – everything is ready to let their creativity run wild. Children don't need to bring anything, just their imagination.
Art fosters concentration, self-expression, and the confidence to create something unique. Whether with brushes, paper, clay, or collages – everything can be explored in the studio. The goal isn't to paint the perfect picture, but rather to enjoy the process and discover one's own creativity. Children rediscover art with us!
Dance & movement as art and expression
In our dance room, music becomes visible and movement turns into art. Children discover how they can tell stories through their bodies in dance and performance. Sometimes quiet and flowing, sometimes powerful and full of energy. They learn to feel rhythm, move freely, and transform emotions into movement.
The large mirrors help children to consciously perceive and refine their posture, charisma, and expressiveness. dancing They experience how music, movement, and emotion merge together. This creates a space where concentration, body awareness, and self-confidence grow – and where joy, creativity, and community take center stage.
Theatre – experiencing and portraying stories
In our children’s theatre, children discover the art of acting. They immerse themselves in different worlds and explore the joy of performing. They take on various roles, invent characters, create their own dialogues, and develop small scenes together. With imagination and practical creativity, they design costumes, props, and stage sets. During rehearsals, courage and expressive strength grow, and when everything comes together at the end, the children proudly present their plays to an audience. Theatre strengthens language, imagination, empathy, and teamwork. And it gives them plenty of self-confidence and joy on stage.
Film & New Media – The Art of Telling Stories with Technology
In the film and media projects, young people turn their ideas into moving images and become directors, camera operators, and screenwriters themselves. They develop stories, write dialogues, plan scenes, and creatively bring their concepts to life using camera, light, and sound. They then learn how to edit footage, add effects, and use music purposefully to create atmosphere. In this way, many individual moments come together to form a short film or an original stop-motion clip. Art in motion!
Through this work, children and young people learn the importance of planning, collaboration, and precise teamwork. At the same time, they develop their eye for visual language, sound, and timing, and gain a better understanding of media and its impact. Film thus becomes a tool for telling stories, conveying emotions, and expressing themselves – creatively, thoughtfully, and with great enjoyment. A modern approach to art that is extremely inspiring for young people.
Music & Recording Studio – Experience and create sound as art
In the recording studio, young people immerse themselves in the world of music production. They experience first-hand how an idea becomes an actual song – from the first beat to vocals and the final mix. Along the way, they experiment with instruments, sounds, and effects and discover how differently music can sound.
Under the guidance of experienced musicians, they work with professional equipment, learn how to use microphones, mixing consoles and software, and develop a feel for rhythm, sound and timing. Every step – from recording to mixing – strengthens their technical understanding and their creative expression.
The art of music connects people, and that's exactly what the young people feel when they compose together, experiment, and bring their own ideas to life. In this way, the recording studio becomes a place where creativity can be heard.
