Clay heads

Intern Nina reports on the awesome pottery course during the autumn holidays led by Sabine Horras at TUFA Trier:

“Ten children and teenagers aged 9 to 15 participated in the pottery holiday workshop at the Tufa. Their goal was to familiarize themselves with clay and create life-size heads. These were built on a structure consisting of a wooden board and a metal rod fixed in the center. First, a basic framework was created from newspaper, which was supported by aluminum foil. The young people then covered their creations with clay. The next step was to transfer the measurements of a real head onto their own sculpture. You can see the pretty cool results here in the photo gallery.”

Designing a life-size, realistic human head in 3D is not easy and requires a great deal of concentration. Fortunately, the clay can be reworked and shaped repeatedly until the result is satisfactory. We think all participants created very realistic and beautiful heads.
