Artistic holiday kick-off in the Düsseldorf Botanical Garden

What could be better than ushering in the summer holidays creatively with brushes, pencils, and plenty of fresh air? For the girls from our project “I am important”, the holiday season started with a real highlight: Under bright sunshine and pleasant temperatures, they went on a creative journey of discovery to the Botanical Garden Düsseldorf.

Exploration tour through the plant world

The Heinrich Heine University Botanical Garden is far more than just a pretty park. Covering roughly eight hectares, this scientific institution in the south of Düsseldorf is home to an impressive 6.000 plant species from all over the world. For our young artists, the excursion felt like a little trip around the globe. An absolute eye-catcher was, of course, the 18-meter-high dome greenhouse.

Impressions become works of art

After thoroughly exploring the flora and fauna, it was time to find a spot, open sketchbooks, and distribute pencils and chalk on the tables! The Düsseldorf Botanical Garden was transformed into an open-air studio for the participants.

On site, the girls immediately put their personal impressions down on paper. Whether it was the delicate veining of a single leaf, the vibrant blossom of an exotic plant, or the imposing silhouette of the greenhouse dome – each participant chose her own unique subject.

With great attention to detail, perseverance, and a trained eye, beautiful, individual floral drawings were created. It was impressive to observe the calm and concentration with which the girls immersed themselves in their work and how differently the same nature can be interpreted by different eyes.

Strong girls, strong ideas: The project “I am important”

The trip to the Botanical Garden However, it was more than just a beautiful summer day – it was a building block for our passion project. “I am important” is a year-long creative project by KRASS e.V. for girls aged 12 to 14, combining art, fashion, movement, and community.

The focus is always on a creative and playful approach to design and self-expression. In a phase where young girls are often searching for their identity, the project offers a safe space. The participants discover their own strengths, develop new forms of expression, and experience firsthand how valuable their own perspectives and ideas are.
