The article states that students from the St. Peter am Wallersberg elementary school in Völkermarkt actively participated in a European painting project. Instead of notebooks and pens, 64 students picked up brushes and paints to contribute to the so-called "Europe Canvas." The project was initiated by Völkermarkt artist Danja Kulterer, who specifically selected the children for this creative activity.
Project objective and procedure
The "Europe Canvas" project envisions each EU country designing one square meter of a roughly 30-square-meter canvas. Germany, Finland, and France have already painted their sections. The Austrian contribution has now been realized by the students of the St. Peter am Wallersberg elementary school. The project aims to creatively immortalize as many European children as possible on the canvas while simultaneously contributing to the fight against child poverty and social exclusion. The project is run by the KRASS association, which is dedicated to the cultural education of children and young people.
Student participation
The students worked under the guidance of teacher Florian Muchar and artist Danja Kulterer. Every student was able to actively participate in the design. The finished picture will be assembled after the painting tour of all the countries is completed and then exhibited.
Exhibition and Use
An opening reception with all participants is planned for the last quarter of 2010 at the European Parliament in Brussels. The proceeds from the sale of the finished canvas will benefit European children, thus making the art project both artistically and socially valuable.
