The project "anders." presented its results in an exhibition, a live show, and a documentary film. The exhibition featured photographs, paintings, and graffiti. In the live show, the participants performed live music, rap, singing, and beatboxing.
During the project, the young people engaged intensively with various social issues through artistic expression. These included gender diversity, personal identity, living with physical disabilities, the impact of the coronavirus on their personal freedoms, and current events of the "Black Lives Matter" movement.
What is life like in a wheelchair in Düsseldorf? This was the question explored by the participants of the youth culture project "anders" under the artistic direction of Barbara Rückert and Jason Firchow!
This led to an experiment that the participants explored in the documentary film "Another Role". They sat in wheelchairs themselves and experienced the limitations that people with disabilities have to accept daily in public spaces, in addition to their physical handicap.
On September 18, 2020, the film premiered at the "anders." final presentation on the open-air stage "Musikpavillon im Hofgarten Düsseldorf".
In addition to the film, there was an exhibition of photographs, paintings, and graffiti art, as well as a live show (live music, rap, singing, beatboxing). Thematically, the participants explored gender diversity, identity, life with a wheelchair, the COVID-19 pandemic and its restrictions on their freedoms, and the events surrounding the Black Lives Matter movement through their artistic expression.
Our project was designed to highlight the diversity and talents of each participant and to strengthen their personality.
The target group consisted of 40 young people aged 14 to 20 from 16 nations (Gambia, Afghanistan, Syria, Iran, USA, Russia, Greece, Morocco, Poland, Zimbabwe, Somalia, France, Spain, Albania, Ghana, Tajikistan and Germany).
