In 2023, the association traveled almost daily with the "InterkulturMobil" to various refugee accommodations in Düsseldorf. The dedicated team reached around 100 children weekly from countries such as Ukraine, the Balkans, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, India, Georgia, Somalia, Kurdistan, and Turkey.
The team brought paints, paper, craft materials, and plenty of creative ideas. This regularly created a safe space in the accommodations where the children could paint, craft, create, and express themselves. Through this creative program, they not only received a valuable break from their often difficult daily lives but also the opportunity to learn German in a playful way. The low-threshold language instruction was very hands-on – through painting, crafting, and storytelling together.
These encounters created an atmosphere of trust. The children opened up, shared their experiences, and their families also engaged in conversation with the staff. In this way, the team succeeded in building bridges, fostering trust, and introducing the families to the German education system.
The project promoted not only language and creativity, but also understanding, cultural exchange and mutual respect – important foundations for successful integration.
