Children's art studio in Düsseldorf: Where creativity has a space!

KRASS beim Karneval in Eller

A child with a paintbrush in their hand is an explorer on a journey. In the children’s studio at the Bürgerhaus Düsseldorf-Eller in Düsseldorf, we create the space for these journeys of discovery. Our program is aimed at all children aged 6 and up who want to dive into the world of colors, shapes, and materials. The best part? It is completely free of charge and requires no prior registration.

In a world that is often rigidly structured, our children's art studio offers a valuable counterpoint: Here there is no pressure to perform, no grades, and no "right or wrong". Only the joy of creating counts.

Why is the children's art studio so important for children's development?

Creativity is so much more than just painting beautiful pictures. When children work in the art studio, they develop important life skills. We constantly observe how the children surpass themselves:

  • Fine motor skills: Whether kneading clay, precisely cutting out shapes or guiding the brush – hand-eye coordination is trained in a playful way.
  • Problem-solving skills: "How do I glue this heavy stone onto the paper?" In the children's art studio, children find their own solutions to creative challenges.
  • Self-confidence: Holding a finished work of art in your hands, one you created entirely on your own, makes you proud. This sense of accomplishment strengthens your confidence in your own abilities.
  • Concentration: Immersing oneself in the creation of a work promotes perseverance and the ability to focus on one thing for an extended period of time.

What children can experience in the children's art studio

Our Children's art studio in Düsseldorf It is a place of unlimited possibilities. The children decide for themselves what they want to work with and at what pace they want to create. We offer an environment that encourages initiative.

Painting, crafting and designing

For many children, traditional painting with watercolors, acrylics, or ink is their first introduction to our creative world. But with us, it goes far beyond simply coloring: We encourage young artists to experiment with various mixed media techniques and discover their own style. We don't just use brushes; we also print with interesting everyday materials, stamp with natural materials, and create multi-layered collages from found objects and papers. This playful approach to color fosters an understanding of color theory and composition, while the children, completely free from pressure, express their inner world of images on canvas or paper.

Kneading and building

Working with three-dimensional materials, which involves the full use of the hands, is especially popular. Under curious fingers, fantastic creatures emerge from soft clay, while we create entire miniature landscapes or futuristic buildings from wire, scrap wood, and papier-mâché. The tactile experience of manipulating a material with one's own hands and giving it form is a completely new and fascinating experience for many children. It not only develops spatial reasoning but also fine motor skills as intricate details are worked out until the finished creation finally stands proudly in the room.

Pottery

In pottery, children experience the fascinating transformation of a simple lump of clay into a genuine, lasting work of art. Whether it's useful little bowls, imaginative animals, or their first abstract sculptures, we show the children step by step how to build stable and durable pieces using the thumb-pressing or coiling techniques. Working with the cool, moist clay has an almost calming effect, promotes deep concentration, and gives children an unparalleled sense of surface textures and the permanence of their own work.

Equipment: Everything is provided for young artists

Sometimes creativity at home is thwarted by logistics – you don't have the right paints, the table mustn't get dirty, or the clay has dried out. It's different in a children's art studio!

All materials are readily available in the studio.so that the children can get started right away:

  • Large color selection: From vibrant primary colors to glitter effects.
  • A variety of papers: Different strengths, formats, and structures.
  • Plastic materials: Clay, modeling clay and plaster.
  • Upcycling corner: We show how to conjure up amazing works of art from supposed waste (egg cartons, rolls, fabric scraps).

This allows young artists to experiment and let their ideas run wild at any time, without parents having to worry about preparation or tidying up.

Artistic guidance: Professionals with heart

Behind this offer is a team that is passionate about what they do. Professional and trained artists as well as dedicated volunteers The children are accompanied attentively.

Our role is that of "facilitators." We don't prescribe rigid topics, but rather offer guidance and support. We demonstrate techniques (e.g., "How do you mix a light green?" or "How do I join two pieces of clay securely?"), give tips, and help when something doesn't work right away. In doing so, we support each child individually and encourage them to find their own style.

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” – This famous quote by Pablo Picasso is our guiding principle.

Friendships develop here through creative exchange. We are proud to have been an integral part of Düsseldorf's cultural landscape for many years and to contribute to cultural education.
