Culinary Culture: Intercultural Cooking and Creative Workshop

Projekt Kochen mit Kindern und Jugendlichen - Interschiedliche Kochkulturen kennenlernen.

The intercultural cooking and creative workshop strengthened understanding between cultures and fostered the participants' self-image. It took place from January 17 to August 31, 2022, with the project days occurring between March and September 2022.

goal of the project

The project demonstrated how cooking connects people. The students presented their favorite recipes and shared personal stories. In doing so, they got to know each other, discovered common ground, and developed respect for different walks of life. This created a space for exchange, openness, and understanding.

Creative exchange and digital media

The group collaboratively created an intercultural food blog. They filmed cooking videos, created animated GIFs, and told stories about their dishes. By publishing online, the participants learned to use digital media creatively and responsibly. Working with images, text, and video boosted their self-confidence and expressiveness.

Experiences and encounters

Joint excursions took the group to various districts of Düsseldorf. They visited the Japanese, Arab, and European quarters, discovering new cultures along the way. These experiences broadened their perspective on the city and fostered their understanding of diversity in everyday life.

Impact of the project

The children and young people experienced how cooking and creativity connect people. They felt empowered to express their cultural identity and developed pride in their heritage. The project combined media work, cultural education, and practical integration into an experience that sustainably fostered exchange and community.
