The goal of the project
The KRASSer art and culture bus brings cultural education directly to children and young people in Düsseldorf refugee accommodations. The mobile studio offers a holistic, high-quality, and easily accessible cultural and educational program in German. It promotes creativity, linguistic and intercultural exchange, and social participation. At the same time, the project conveys fundamental democratic values, children's rights, and child protection.
A particular focus is placed on making the program easily accessible: Participation is free, no registration is required, and it takes place directly where the children live. German is taught playfully through creative activities. The dedicated team provides ongoing support to the children, fostering their individual creative development while also introducing them to the world beyond their accommodations.
Our Process
The art and culture bus is on site three days a week for two and a half hours each day. It offers a variety of workshops in painting and drawing, music, video art, dance, and theater. During school holidays, additional cultural and leisure activities are offered, such as trips to museums, exhibitions, cultural venues, cinemas, theaters, or swimming.
Place and time
The project runs from January 1st to December 31st, 2026. The art and culture bus visits three refugee accommodations in Düsseldorf: Kieshecker Weg, In der Nießdonk, Oberlöricker Straße, and Schwannstraße. The program is aimed at children and young people aged 6 to 12 living in the refugee accommodations and in the Eller district.
Effect
The project provides low-threshold access to cultural education and strengthens language development through creative methods. Children are given opportunities to develop their creativity and connect with other children from diverse cultural backgrounds. Furthermore, the project promotes democratic values and children's rights and strengthens social participation and networking within the neighborhood.
