The KulturMobil as a mobile studio
Since the project's inception, KRASS has used the KulturMobil as a mobile art studio to reach refugee children directly in their communities. The bus was fully equipped and offered everything needed for creative activities: tables, paints, brushes, and other materials. Through our established network of volunteers and contacts with local youth welfare offices and other organizations, we tailored the activities specifically to the children.
Safe space and support for children and parents from Ukraine
We created a safe space for the children. There, they experienced peace and security despite the traumatic experiences of war and flight. At the same time, we provided consistency and reliability. We gave the children structure in their daily lives and offered the parents the opportunity to relax, run errands, or get involved.
Low-threshold access and creative development
The program was easily accessible because we worked directly on-site. We overcame language barriers with Russian-, Ukrainian-, and English-speaking staff. In terms of content, we provided the children and young people with all the creative tools they needed: painting, drawing, and crafting with various techniques and creative concepts. The children chose activities based on their interests and inclinations, allowing them to develop their creativity and self-determination.
During the cold season, we conducted the courses in the accommodation facilities to ensure continuous support.
Objectives of the project
The project aimed to provide relief and distraction to children and their parents who had been uprooted from their familiar surroundings by war and displacement. We made them feel welcome, offered support, and provided concrete assistance in their daily lives. By offering these activities on a daily basis, we created structure, reliability, and security in the children's lives.
In addition, beyond the KulturMobil, we enabled participants to access further children's and youth projects to promote their creative, social and personal growth.
