In recent days, KRASS e.V. has been visiting several accommodations for refugee families to bring joy to children with small gifts.
Even upon entering the accommodations, we sensed a special atmosphere: curious glances, cautious anticipation – and then, with each gift presented, more and more radiant faces. Sparkling eyes, genuine laughter, and a joy that came from the heart. These were moments when you could practically see everything else fade into the background for a fleeting instant.
Encounters that remind us why we do what we do
Especially for children whose daily lives are marked by flight, new beginnings, and constant change, such gestures mean far more than a gift. They are a sign of attention and compassion. They say: You are seen. You are important. You belong. You are welcome.
For us as a team, these encounters were a gift as well. They remind us why our work is so important and how much impact even small gestures can have. A smile, a kind word, a moment of togetherness – all of these can leave traces that last far beyond the moment itself.
Gratitude for shared heartfelt moments
We are deeply grateful for these days, for the open encounters, and for all the people who made this project possible. Your commitment allowed us to create lasting moments – not just in photos, but above all, in our hearts. KRASS e.V. gives refugee children moments filled with joy, hope, and belonging. Insights into a moving project with a powerful impact.
Good to know: The gift-giving tradition
Why do we give gifts? Originally, December 6th (St. Nicholas' Day) was the day when children received gifts to commemorate the generosity of St. Nicholas. Over time, this tradition shifted to Christmas Eve in many regions. Decorating together, preparing food, and exchanging gifts have become integral parts of German family life, strengthening bonds during this cozy time of year.
