… and the spark is immediately ignited by Beuys’ crazy life story, the unusual materials and the fact that he worked in Düsseldorf for so long,” says project manager Sarah Reuter from KRASS e.V.
At the exhibition opening in August, special guest Uwe Piel, himself an artist and Beuys master student, spoke about his time with Beuys. The headmistress of the Richardstraße primary school, Friedgard Schulze, came along with a group of pupils who had worked on the exhibition. The group was delighted to meet a real Beuys student!
The works exhibited at the end of the project, some on TV screens, some on display walls or free-standing in the room, reflect the children’s engagement with the works of the world-famous Rhinelander.
The three-part Beuys project took the children to the NRW Art Collection and Düsseldorf’s historic city centre, among other places, before they were able to get creative themselves.
The project was generously sponsored by Margarete Sonnen.
