Weekly report week 9, 2022

The continuing news makes us sad, angry and leaves us with a feeling of helplessness. There is nothing more we can do at the moment than donate. We wish for peace! You probably feel the same way, even if we are not (directly) affected. At KRASS e.V. we have decided to inform ourselves quietly, to reduce our contributions to a minimum for reasons of respect and to adapt thematically and not to share anything about carnival or the current programme for the time being.

Nevertheless, our projects continue. Especially now, it is important to provide stability to the children and young people and to offer them the opportunity for dialogue or creative processing. Because: “If we want to achieve true peace in the world, we must start with the children” (Mahatma Gandhi).

Weekly report week 7, 2022

Combining art and learning is what the project “Tutoring Meets Art” in Düsseldorf stands for. Here, the tutoring students take an active part in working on their homework as well as in the artistic exploration of smaller projects and become absorbed in them. Learning is easier when there is fun and art involved. The project is supported by the Stiftung Kinderträume in Düsseldorf, among others.

KRASS on the ground in Zakho Kurdistan/Iraq

Today Nechir Mohammed and Claudia Seidensticker signed the KRASS Social Franchise Agreement for Kurdistan/Iraq. The projects in Zakho Kurdistan/Iraq are mainly aimed at underprivileged children, children with low socio-ecological standards and those children whose parents have been killed in the fight by terrorism.

Whether it is helping with homework, promoting reading through guided reading, cultural education in small groups, experiencing a new language, running training courses for teachers and educators or simply igniting the fire of curiosity in children and young people and motivating them to embark on the adventure of learning, exploration and self-discovery – we are excited about the new site manager Nechir (M.A. Nottingham University) and will keep you updated.

Weekly report week 5, 2022

The week started with the “Plastic People” project in cooperation with the great photographer Dirk Krüll.

Based on his series of works Plastic Army, the kids deal with the fusion of waste and nature. They deal with the environment, waste and waste recycling in an artistic way.

The focus is on the upcycling process and the experience of creating something artistic out of rubbish. Through the discussion and active design, the children learn, among other things that they can actively influence larger social problems through their own actions.

Weekly report week 3, 2022

We asked our team which of the best moments at KRASS the employees could name. Mareike van Elsbergen said the following:

“Basically, it’s the situations where the children have already been waiting for you full of anticipation and we then set up the room or the workspace together for today’s art offering. Everything is usually accompanied by the children’s question: ‘What are we doing today?'”

The children have had to deal with many new challenges in the last two years.
in the last two years. The Corona outbreak has made learning difficult for many students. Many of them could not and still cannot fulfil the required workload and feel under a lot of pressure as a result.
